Painting workshops for children of all ages, with the aim of fostering creative engagement, aesthetic development, and above all self-expression.
The children’s work is based on two principal axes: familiarisation with the material elements of painting – such as line, shape, colour, composition, and all types of media including markers, coloured pencils, watercolours, and acrylics – and an understanding of the inner world of images: emotions, social messages, and so on, both in everyday life and in art. Particular emphasis is placed on the children’s self-expression and on the pleasure of artistic creation. This is achieved by allowing them, as far as possible, to choose freely the subjects and materials they use. The workshop leader, painter Olga Barmazi, proposes, advises, and supports the children in the work they choose to undertake.
About the Artist
Olga Barmazi was born in 1962 in Assos, Corinthia. She studied Political Science and Public Administration at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and during the same period began working as a proofreader, copy editor, encyclopaedia contributor, and translator in the publishing field – collaborating with publishers including Giovani, Odysseas, Pontiki, Selas, Alfa, and Livanis, as well as with the publications of the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) and the National Theatre of Greece.
Following her university graduation, she studied at the Visual and Decorative Arts studio of Katerina Rota, and jewellery design and creation at the Vortex school under Katerina Iliopoulou. Her works – paintings and jewellery – have been shown in more than 50 group exhibitions and several solo shows in Greece, across Europe, in Japan, and in the United States, receiving numerous distinctions and awards.
In 2011 she left Athens and returned to her birthplace, where she founded the ‘Warehouse of the Arts’ as her personal studio, in which she paints, illustrates and publishes children’s books, and designs and makes sets, costumes for theatrical productions, and jewellery.
