A special encounter for our friends and beyond!
An educational concert of modern works by a distinctive ensemble from Cyprus.
On Saturday, 25 April at 13:30, the musicians will demonstrate the compositional approach and distinctive playing techniques of contemporary musical creation.
The TratSik String Quartet was formed in 2017 with the aim of introducing contemporary Cypriot musical composition to a wider audience.
The Quartet’s repertoire includes works belonging to different currents of contemporary music (Minimalism, Neo-Romanticism, Atonality, New Complexity, and others), while extended playing techniques for string instruments are often explored – always in a way that remains accessible even to listeners unfamiliar with the aesthetics of contemporary music.
The pieces are short in duration, 4-10 minutes, so that they don’t “tire” the listener and remain easy for the average audience member to follow.
Some of the traditional pieces whose material has been used in the composition of these works include: Το Γιασεμί (The Jasmine), Η Μάντρα (The Sheepfold), Ο Βοσκός (The Shepherd), Κόκκινη Τριανταφυλλιά (Red Rose), Του Άη Γιωρκού (Of Saint George), Στάμνα (The Jug), Ο Δασονόμος (The Forester), Έσυρα το Μήλον (I Picked the Apple), Ψιντρή Βασιλιτσιά, and others.
The members of the Quartet are: Georgios Chatzigeorgiou (violin), Spyros Spyrou (violin), Nikolas Efthymiou (viola), and Doros Zisimos (cello). The TratSik String Quartet’s repertoire includes compositions by: Antis Skordis, Andreas Papapetrou, Aris Antoniadis, Alexandros Darnas, Apollon Kalamenios, Dimitris Tsoukas, and Stavros Choplaros.
